Baseball Recap: Rutgers Prep Puts Losing Streak Behind Them

There's no place like home for Rutgers Prep, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Monday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 6-4 victory over the Somerville Pioneers on Wednesday. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Argonauts as it put an end to their four-game losing streak.

Li Perez was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single hit and allowed only two earned runs while striking out ten over four innings pitched. He has been consistent: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in eight consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

In other batting news, Alex Perez was excellent, going 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Ethan Nepomuceno, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with one run.

Rutgers Prep's record is now 11-8. As for Somerville, their loss dropped their record down to 9-9.

Coming up, Rutgers Prep will be playing at home against West Windsor-Plainsboro North at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Somerville, they will venture away from home to face off against Immaculata at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Pioneers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Spartans have averaged an impressive 6.1 runs per game this season.
