Basketball Game Preview: Commerce Tigers vs. Mount Vernon Tigers

Commerce hasn't had much luck against Mount Vernon recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. Commerce will head out on the road to face off against Mount Vernon at 6:00 p.m. The contest will give Commerce their first taste of in-conference action this season.

Commerce is headed into the matchup having just suffered their closest defeat since January 14th on Saturday. They fell just short of Eagle Mountain by a score of 41-39. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Tigers came into the game with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 188th, while the Knights are ranked 397th).

Commerce's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Ja'Naya Anderson, who dropped a double-double with 15 points and ten boards, and Kelis Walker, who posted seven points. Anderson is crushing it when it comes to rebounds: she's pulled down at least nine every time she's taken the court this season.

Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Mount Vernon duked it out with Teague on Thursday. The Tigers snuck past the Lions with a 38-33 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Tigers.

Commerce's defeat dropped their record down to 11-3. As for Mount Vernon, the win got them back to even at 6-6.

Commerce couldn't quite finish off Mount Vernon in their previous meeting back in January and fell 54-52. Can Commerce avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
