Basketball Recap: Madison Yanes' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Nixon-Smiley over San Antonio Christian

Nixon-Smiley lost against San Antonio Christian back in December of 2023 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Nixon-Smiley Mustangs fell 50-43 to the San Antonio Christian Lions. The Mustangs' defeat continues a trend for the team, making it three in a row.

Nixon-Smiley's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Madison Yanes, who posted 11 points in addition to seven boards and three steals. Those seven boards gave Yanes a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Juliana Kendrick, who put up eight points and nine rebounds.

Even though they lost, Nixon-Smiley smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in five consecutive matchups.

Nixon-Smiley's record now sits at 7-13. As for San Antonio Christian, they moved to 4-12 with that win, which also ended their three-game losing streak.

Nixon-Smiley didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 43-36 defeat against Hondo on the 27th. As for San Antonio Christian, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 48-22 victory against Woodsboro on the 27th.
