Preview: Colusa RedHawks vs. Sweetwater Red Devils
The Colusa RedHawks will face off against the Sweetwater Red Devils at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Both teams are coming into the match red-hot, with Colusa sitting on 13 straight wins and Sweetwater on five.
With a playoff game on the line, Colusa rose to the challenge on Saturday. They blew past the Warriors 42-6 on the road. Colusa might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team's won seven matches by 29 points or more this season.
Colusa's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Bo Coronado led the charge by throwing for 233 yards and three touchdowns while completing 76.2% of his passes. The team also got some help courtesy of Isaiah Travis, who picked up 118 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Meanwhile, Sweetwater put the finishing touches on their fifth blowout victory of the season on Saturday. They blew past St. Monica 47-27.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Sweetwater to victory, but perhaps none more so than Xzavier Crews, who rushed for 135 yards and two touchdowns on only ten carries. Izell Wright was another key contributor, rushing for 144 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 9.0 yards per carry.
Colusa's win was their sixth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 13-0. As for Sweetwater, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matchups, which provided a massive bump to their 8-6 record this season.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Saturday's game: Colusa has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 162.4 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Sweetwater struggles in that department as they've been even better at 375.2 per game. It's looking like Saturday's matchup might have some serious battles in the trenches.
