Football Recap: Gabrielino Piles Up the Points Against Azusa

Gabrielino got themselves on the board against Azusa on Friday, but Azusa never followed suit. They blew past the Aztecs 49-0. The score at the end of the third wound up being the final score as the Eagles just coasted through the last quarter.

Gabrielino got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Alijah Sheppard out in front who rushed for 134 yards and a pair of TDs on only eight carries. Sheppard's longest rush was for an impressive 54 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per carry total. Marelle Moore Jr. was in the mix too, providing Gabrielino with two touchdowns.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Gabrielino was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 224 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since the start of last season.

Gabrielino didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Peter Ruiz, Ethan Tran, and Chace Hoang picked up one apiece.

Gabrielino now has a winning record of 2-1. As for Azusa, they dropped their record down to 0-3 with the loss, which was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season.

Coming up, Gabrielino will face off against Workman at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Azusa, they will take on Alhambra at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
