Basketball Recap: Maia Melendez's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Woodbridge over Potomac Senior

If Woodbridge was riding high fresh off their 65-32 takedown of Forest Park last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Woodbridge Vikings took a 38-32 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Potomac Senior Panthers. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Panthers this season, with their most recent defeat being a 49-41 loss back in January.

Woodbridge lost on Friday despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Maia Melendez, who posted 13 points and five boards. She is also on a roll when it comes to three-point shooting accuracy, as she's posted one of at least 40% in the last five games she's played. Another player making a difference was Audrina Johnson, who had eight points and nine rebounds.

Even though they lost, Woodbridge smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in three consecutive matches.

Woodbridge's loss dropped their record down to 10-12. As for Potomac Senior, the win (which was their seventh in a row) raised their record to 12-4.

Woodbridge has already played their next contest, a 39-37 victory against Hylton on the 18th. As for Potomac Senior, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 38-32 win against Freedom on the 18th.
