Baseball Game Preview: Mt. Pulaski Hilltoppers vs. LeRoy Panthers

The Mt. Pulaski Hilltoppers will face off against the LeRoy Panthers at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Neither Mt. Pulaski nor LeRoy posted many runs in their last games, so it might be the pitching crews that decide this one.

LeRoy will face off against a team with plenty of momentum: Mt. Pulaski extended their winning streak to four on Tuesday. The Hilltoppers' pitchers stepped up to hand Routt Catholic a 1-0 shutout. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Hilltoppers have posted since April 19, 2024.

Meanwhile, after a string of five wins, LeRoy's good fortune finally ran out on Wednesday. They fell just short of Tremont by a score of 2-1.

Kobe Brent made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. Jack Bogema also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Mt. Pulaski's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 15-3. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.3 runs on average over those games. As for LeRoy, their loss dropped their record down to 13-5.

Mt. Pulaski was able to grind out a solid win over LeRoy in their previous matchup back in April of 2023, winning 8-3. Do the Hilltoppers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Panthers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
