Baseball Recap: Strasburg-Franklin Takes a Loss

Strasburg-Franklin lost against Newcomerstown last Monday, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Wednesday. The Tigers fell just short of the Trojans by a score of 7-6. The Tigers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Caden Dugan and Brody Baughmam were huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. On the mound, Dugan pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Baughmam tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Dugan has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances. At the plate, Dugan scored a run and stole two bases while going 2-for-6, while Baughmam scored two runs while going 2-for-6.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Tanner Tucker, who scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in three of his seven plate appearances. That stolen base was his first of the season.

Strasburg-Franklin's defeat dropped their record down to 3-3. As for Newcomerstown, the win (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 5-1.

Coming up, Strasburg-Franklin will venture away from home to challenge Newark Catholic at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Green Wave's pitching crew has only allowed two runs per game this season, so the Tigers' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Newcomerstown, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Philo at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The Electrics have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 10.17 runs per game on average), something the Trojans will no doubt try to take advantage of.
