Basketball Game Preview: St. Andrew's Lions vs. Episcopal School of Jacksonville Eagles

Two dominant guards in Zayden Edwards and Will Moore are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The St. Andrew's Lions and the Episcopal School of Jacksonville Eagles will compete for holiday cheer at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (St. Andrew's has five straight wins, Episcopal School of Jacksonville has three straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the court.

Last Saturday, even if it wasn't a dominant performance, St. Andrew's beat Long County 45-40. Given the Lions' advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 65th, while the Blue Tide are ranked 286th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

St. Andrew's can attribute much of their success to Ja'Cari Glover, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 14 boards, and Edwards, who posted 17 points and four steals. Edwards is crushing it when it comes to steals: he's grabbed at least two every time he's taken the court this season.

St. Andrew's smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in seven consecutive games.

Meanwhile, Episcopal School of Jacksonville was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Thursday as they fell 42-37 to Fletcher. The match marked the Eagles' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

Episcopal School of Jacksonville's defeat dropped their record down to 5-4. As for St. Andrew's, their record now sits at 6-1.

St. Andrew's might still be hurting after the 57-34 loss they got from Episcopal School of Jacksonville when the teams last played back in January of 2022. Thankfully for St. Andrew's, Kent Jackson (who went 8 of 12 on his way to 20 points and six rebounds) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
