Recap: Akron Tigers vs. Medina Mustangs

Even though the Akron Tigers have not done well against the Medina Mustangs recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. Akron came out on top against Medina by a score of 53-44. That's another feather in the cap for Akron, who also won these teams' last head-to-head.

Benjamin Gerstung was his usual excellent self, scoring 25 points along with seven rebounds. He set a new season high mark in steals with two. Another player making a difference was Trace Hill, who scored nine points along with five steals.

When it comes to explaining why Medina lost, one person who can't be blamed is Jerrell Nealy. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 17 points and 11 rebounds. The matchup was Nealy's fourth in a row with at least ten points. Christian Moss was another key contributor, scoring six points along with 11 rebounds.

Akron's victory bumped their record up to 3-1. As for Medina, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-6.

Akron will be playing in front of their home fans against Royalton-Hartland at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Royalton-Hartland will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps New York Rankings (they are ranked 707th, while Akron is ranked 331st). As for Medina, they will head out on the road to face off against Newfane at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Newfane will be looking to keep their five-game home win streak alive.
