Softball Recap: Zion Chapel Drops Highest Score of Season Against Goshen

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Zion Chapel). Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Goshen Eagles a 17-0 shutout on Thursday. The victory continues a trend for the Rebels in their matchups with the Eagles: they've now won nine in a row.

Riley Bannin was a major factor no matter where she played. She struck out six batters over two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing three bases while going 1-for-1. Those three stolen bases gave her a new career-high.

In other pitching news, Cally Mcwaters looked comfortable as she pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits.

Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Shea Wambles, who scored three runs and stole three bases while going 1-for-1. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Sydney Boothe, who scored two runs while going 2-for-2.

Zion Chapel always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .765. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Zion Chapel's win bumped their record up to 10-11. As for Goshen, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-10.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Zion Chapel will be taking part in a tournament against Highland Home at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Goshen, they will venture away from home to challenge New Brockton at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
