Softball Game Preview: Wharton Tigers vs. Columbia Roughnecks

The Wharton Tigers are taking a road trip to square off against the Columbia Roughnecks at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.

Last Friday, Wharton came up short against Bay City and fell 6-3. The Tigers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Meanwhile, Columbia came tearing into Wednesday's game with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8 runs), and they left with even more momentum. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Blackcats an 11-0 shutout. That looming 11-0 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Roughnecks yet this season.

Rylea Dent was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and one double. Gracie Raley was another key player, scoring two runs while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

Columbia was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .423. The last time their batting average was this high was back in April of 2024.

Columbia's record is now 8-5-1. As for Wharton, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-8.

Wharton might still be hurting after the 16-6 loss they got from Columbia in their previous meeting back in April of 2018. Can Wharton avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
