Softball Game Preview: Riverside Vikings vs. Mid Valley Spartans

Riverside is 1-9 against Mid Valley since May of 2021 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. The Vikings will host the Spartans at 4:30 p.m. Riverside is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.6 runs per game this season.

Riverside barely beat Lakeland the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Vikings blew past the Chiefs 13-5 on Monday. The Vikings haven't had any issues with the Chiefs recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive win against them.

Addie Smith made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off five hits. Smith was also big at the plate, going a perfect 4-for-4 with two doubles. That's the most doubles she has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, Mikayla Smith was a standout: she went 2-for-5 with two runs, two doubles, and two RBI. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high. Clara Sandly was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.

Riverside kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

The scorekeeper got an easy start on Tuesday as neither Mid Valley nor Holy Cross made it on the board until the fifth inning. The Spartans fell just short of the Crusaders by a score of 7-6. The Spartans' loss signaled the end of their five-game winning streak.

Mid Valley's defeat was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 11-1 and their overall record down to 16-2-1. As for Riverside, their victory bumped their record up to 8-10.
