Heritage comes up short despite Aaron Contreras' dominant performance

Recap: Heritage Patriots vs. Paloma Valley Wildcats

It was a good run, but the Heritage Patriots unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Wednesday. They fell 72-65 to Paloma Valley. Heritage was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Paloma Valley apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in February of 2023.

When it comes to explaining why Heritage lost, one person who can't be blamed is Aaron Contreras. Despite the final result, he scored 27 points. Adrian Viray was another key contributor, scoring 11 points.

Paloma Valley's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Ameer Sharif led the charge by dropping a double-double on 15 points and 17 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Tyree Cardwell, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and 11 rebounds.

Heritage's defeat was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 8-13. As for Paloma Valley, the victory got them back to even at 10-10.

Heritage will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against Lakeside at 6:00 p.m. on January 19th. Averaging 54.5 so far this season, Lakeside's high-powered offense has been in full-swing lately, so Heritage better be ready for a challenge. As for Paloma Valley, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against Canyon Springs at 6:00 p.m. Canyon Springs is coming into the game hot, having won their last three games.
