Basketball Recap: Joey Cook Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Silver Creek

Broomfield posted their closest victory since December 6, 2024 on Tuesday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Silver Creek Raptors, sneaking past 73-70. Given the Eagles' advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 20th, while the Raptors are ranked 150th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Broomfield got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Joey Cook out in front who dropped a double-double with 12 points and ten boards. Cook is also on a roll when it comes to field goal percentage, as he's posted one of at least 45% in the last five games he's played. Another player making a difference was Jack Wadlington, who posted 13 points.

Broomfield smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in 12 consecutive games.

When it comes to explaining why Silver Creek lost, don't look at Luke Schmeeckle. Despite the final result, he went 9 for 21 on his way to 26 points and seven rebounds. With that strong performance, Schmeeckle is now averaging an impressive 15.8 points per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Blake Gorr, who earned ten points.

Broomfield is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a nice bump to their 12-7 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 74.0 points over those games. As for Silver Creek, they dropped their record down to 8-9 with the loss, which was their sixth straight at home.

Broomfield didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 71-63 victory against Holy Family on the 11th. As for Silver Creek, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 56-42 win against Niwot on the 7th.
