Basketball Recap: Mandarin Takes a Loss

Mandarin suffered their biggest defeat since November 26, 2024 on Monday. They had to suffer through a 72-44 loss at the hands of the Paxon School For Advanced Studies Golden Eagles. While losing is never fun, the Mustangs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 290th, while the Golden Eagles are ranked 136th).

When it comes to explaining why Mandarin lost, don't look at Reese Holman. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double on 17 points and 13 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Isabelle Sahyers, who posted seven points and four steals.

Leading Paxon School For Advanced Studies to victory were Nina Kamma-Hill and Caelyn Carter. Kamma-Hill went 10 for 16 on her way to 23 points and four steals, while Carter went 7 of 16 en route to 15 points and five boards. The match was Carter's seventh in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Charlotte Young, who earned nine points and three steals.

Mandarin has traveled a rocky road recently having lost five of their last six contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-7 record this season. As for Paxon School For Advanced Studies, their win bumped their record up to 8-5.

Mandarin didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 37-33 victory against ED White on the 10th. Paxon School For Advanced Studies has also already played their next match, a 74-62 win against Hilliard on the 7th.
