Softball Recap: Fuquay - Varina Has No Trouble Against Eastern Alamance

Fuquay - Varina won the last time they faced Eastern Alamance and things went their way on Thursday too. The Bengals put the hurt on the Eagles with a sharp 14-3 win. The Bengals might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six matches by seven runs or more this season.

Paige Alexander made a big impact no matter where she played. She tossed seven innings while giving up three earned runs off six hits. Alexander was also big at the plate, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with two runs, two RBI, and one double. Those two runs gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Julie Selig was a standout: she went 3-for-5 with one home run, three runs, and one double. Those three hits gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Jaycie Old, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with three runs, two RBI, and one double.

Fuquay - Varina was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .447. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive contests.

Fuquay - Varina's record is now 9-5. As for Eastern Alamance, their defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 13-6.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Fuquay - Varina will take on Southeast Raleigh at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The Bengals are facing the Bulldogs at the right time seeing as the Bulldogs are stuck on a nine-game losing streak. As for Eastern Alamance, they will face off against Southern Alamance at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
