Softball Recap: Vasquez Takes a Loss

Vasquez was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 5-3 heartbreaker at the hands of the Polytechnic Panthers. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Mustangs have suffered since April 10, 2024.

Sadie Mendoza made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, two stolen bases, and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Faith Nasrallah, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one double.

Vasquez's loss dropped their record down to 12-11. As for Polytechnic, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 6-3.

Coming up, Vasquez will challenge Faith Baptist at 3:15 p.m. on Tuesday. The Contenders will aim to continue their four-game streak of scoring more runs each contest than the last. As for Polytechnic, they will take on South Pasadena in a tournament on Saturday. The Panthers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Tigers have averaged an impressive 7.1 runs per game this season.
