Basketball Recap: Pomona Takes a Loss

Pomona lost against Wheat Ridge back in January of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Pomona Panthers fell 70-62 to the Wheat Ridge Farmers. The Panthers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Despite the loss, Pomona still got an impressive performance from Dj Hawkins, who posted 24 points along with five boards and three steals. The match was Hawkins' 17th in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Jayden Morine, who had 13 points and three steals.

Leading Wheat Ridge to victory were Amir Nix and Isaac Mccune. Nix dropped a double-double on 18 points and 19 rebounds, while Mccune went 5 of 11 on his way to 17 points and four steals. The dominant performance gave Nix a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Isaiah Rainalter, who put up 11 points.

Pomona's loss dropped their record down to 6-9. As for Wheat Ridge, the victory got them back to even at 7-7.

Pomona has already played their next contest, a 71-45 defeat against Green Mountain on the 29th. As for Wheat Ridge, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 76-22 win against Greeley West on the 25th.
