Football Game Preview: Springfield Tigers vs. Wickliffe Blue Devils

The Springfield Tigers will venture away from home to take on the Wickliffe Blue Devils at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Springfield's defense has only allowed 10.8 points per game this season, so Wickliffe's offense will have their work cut out for them.

Springfield will roll into the matchup after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up six points two weeks ago, then bounced right back against Lowellville on Friday. The Tigers strolled past the Rockets with points to spare, taking the game 33-19.

It was another big night for Alex Caldwell, who rushed for 115 yards and one touchdown.

On the other side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Springfield's defense and their six sacks. The heavy lifting was done by Evan Mericle and Dominick Jones, who racked up 4.5 sacks between them. Jones is also on a roll when it comes to total tackles, as he's now made six or more in each of the last seven games he's played. Springfield got some further help from Marco Gentile: he picked up 1.5 sacks, forced one fumble, and made nine total tackles.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Wickliffe, who bounced back after a loss on the road two weeks ago. They took down Crestwood 31-14 on Friday.

Springfield has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-3 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 7.3 points on average over those games. As for Wickliffe, their win bumped their record up to 8-2.
