Baseball Recap: Hayesville Has No Trouble Against Towns County

After losing to Towns County the last time they met, Hayesville decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Hayesville Yellowjackets blew past the Towns County Indians 16-6 on Wednesday. The Yellowjackets' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Tate Roberts made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched 2.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. That's the fewest earned runs he has allowed since back in March of 2024. He was even better at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing Three bases. while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in April of 2024.

In other batting news, Michael Mauney and Ben Bethel did most of the damage at the plate: Mauney scored two runs and stole Two bases. while going 4-for-5, while Bethel scored two runs and stole Two bases. while going 2-for-3. Those four hits gave Mauney a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Dawson Devane, who scored a run while going 1-for-2.

The victory made it two in a row for Hayesville and bumps their season record up to 2-3. A key ingredient in that success has been their performance when it comes to hits: they averaged an imposing nine hits in those games compared to only 3.67 in the others. As for Towns County, they now have a losing record of 6-7.

Looking ahead, Hayesville is taking a road trip to face off against Andrews at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Hayesville will aim to continue their four-game streak of scoring more runs each game than the last. As for Towns County, they will welcome Murphy at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Murphy is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.2 runs per game this season.
