Basketball Recap: Fort Ann Comes Up Short

Fort Ann played a tough game on Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They took a blow against the Granville Golden Horde, falling 78-37. The Cardinals were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 57-21.

Marcus Stowhas and Kadyence Cutter certainly did their best on Friday to avoid the loss. Stowhas went 5 of 12 on his way to 13 points and five rebounds, while Cutter posted five points along with seven boards and six blocks. The dominant performance gave Stowhas a new career-high in points. Another player making a difference was Aiden Stivens, who scored four points.

Even though they lost, Fort Ann smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in three consecutive matchups.

Liam Farrell was his usual excellent self, almost dropping a double-double on 22 points and nine rebounds for Granville. The contest was Farrell's fifth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Isaiah Guyton, who went 5 for 7 en route to 13 points and eight boards.

Fort Ann now has a losing record at 6-7. As for Granville, their victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 9-6.

The future could be bright for both Fort Ann and Granville: their next opponents haven't had the best luck recently. Fort Ann will try to hand Hartford Central their third-straight defeat when the two meet at 7:00 p.m. on January 31st. Similarly, Granville will look to extend Warrensburg's eight-game losing streak when the meet at 7:00 p.m. on January 31st.
