Football Game Preview: Warde Mustangs vs. Danbury Hatters

For the first time this season, Warde will have a chance to prove themselves in a conference matchup. They will head out on the road to take on the Danbury Hatters at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Warde knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 31 points or more in their past three contests -- so hopefully Danbury likes a good challenge.

Warde's defense heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Bridgeport Central 38-0. The Mustangs haven't had any issues with the Hilltoppers recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive win against them.

James Dellavolpe went supernova, throwing for 149 yards and four touchdowns, while also rushing for 116 yards and one TD on only five carries. Those 116 rushing yards gave him a new career-high. Andrew Shelov was in the mix too, providing Warde with two scores.

Warde's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB three times. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Jamauri Brown, Ryan Tetro, and Jayden Ramirez Leb, who each picked up one sack apiece.

Meanwhile, Danbury might've scored the first points on Friday, but it was Glastonbury who claimed the real prize. The Hatters took a 24-17 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Guardians. While the Hatters didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Guardians 7-0 in the first quarter.

Warde's victory bumped their record up to 3-0. As for Danbury, they now have a losing record of 1-2.

Warde was taken down by Danbury 42-0 in their previous meeting back in October of 2024. Can the Mustangs avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
