Baseball Recap: Anderson Prep Academy Comes Up Short

Anderson Prep Academy extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to five on Friday, dropping their season record down to 0-4 in the process. They lost 15-5 to the Elwood Panthers. The Jets were not able to make up for their loss to the Panthers from their previous meeting back in April of 2024.

Skylar Brough and Breydon Ball stepped up to the plate in a big way. Brough went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI, while Ball got on base in all three of his plate appearances with three stolen bases and one run.

As for Elwood, their victory ended a nine-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 2-5. With that win, they brought their scoring average up to 6.1 runs per game.

On Elwood's side, Dylan Grimes made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Grimes was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double.

In other pitching news, Elwood got a great performance from Jackson Maggart as he struck out seven batters over 4.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off three hits. Maggart is becoming a predictor of the Panthers' success: when he allows at most three earned runs the team is 2-1 (and 0-4 when he doesn't).

Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Aidan Flanagan, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and one triple. The team also got some help courtesy of Jace Reese, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Looking ahead, Anderson Prep Academy will challenge Seton Catholic at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Jets' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Cardinals have averaged an impressive 8.5 runs per game this season. As for Elwood, they will square off against Wabash at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
