Softball Recap: Maxwell Panthers vs. Quincy Trojans
Maxwell extended their losing streak to three on Friday, dropping their season record down to 4-16 in the process. They might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 16-2 to the Quincy Trojans, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior. The Panthers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Trojans apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in March of 2024.
As for Quincy, the win (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 17-4. Considering they have won eight matchups by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
For Quincy's part, Kaitlynn Miller made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out eight over five innings pitched. Miller has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with three runs and one double.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jenna Peay, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with three stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March. Julianna McMorrow was another key player, going a perfect 1-for-1 with three RBI and two runs.
While Maxwell had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair will be back at it again later today.
