Basketball Recap: Holdrege's Winning Streak Snapped at Six Games

It was a good run, but Holdrege unfortunately witnessed the end of their six-game winning streak on Saturday. They fell to the Doniphan-Trumbull Cardinals 57-52. The match marked the Dusters' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

When it comes to explaining why Holdrege lost, don't look at Garret Johnson. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double with 34 points and ten boards. Johnson is crushing it when it comes to points: he's scored at least 15 every time he's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Scott Bieker, who posted five points and six rebounds.

Jack Poppe continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Doniphan-Trumbull, going 8-for-15 on his way to 19 points in addition to eight boards and five steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Ty Bennett, who scored 13 points.

Holdrege's loss was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 4-1 and their overall record down to 21-4. As for Doniphan-Trumbull, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-6 record this season.
