Baseball Game Preview: University School Preppers vs. Kirtland Hornets

The University School Preppers will face off against the Kirtland Hornets at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. University School's pitching crew has only allowed 2.8 runs per game this season, so Kirtland's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

University School is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Thursday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand Twinsburg a 4-0 shutout. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Preppers.

Not much got past Aaron Moss, who gave up just three hits to keep Twinsburg off the board. Moss has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one walk in eight consecutive appearances.

At the plate, University School saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Tucker Greer, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one double.

Meanwhile, Kirtland had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 12 runs) and they went ahead and made it four on Friday. They put the hurt on the Falcons with a sharp 12-4 victory. Considering the Hornets have won 11 matches by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Kirtland got a massive performance out of Ben Difranco, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. That's the most doubles Difranco has posted since back in April. Casey Carkhuff was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one double.

Kirtland's win bumped their record up to 19-7. As for University School, their victory bumped their record up to 25-6.

Monday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. University School hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .336. However, it's not like Kirtland struggles in that department as they've averaged .336. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
