Softball Recap: San Mateo Snaps Three-Game Streak of Wins on the Road

San Mateo dropped their record down to 10-5 on Thursday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins on the road. They fell 5-2 to the Hillsdale Fighting Knights. Having soared to a lofty ten runs in the game before, the Bearcats couldn't push the score so high this time.

San Mateo saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Alice Han, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one run. Han is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played.

As for Hillsdale, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven games. That's provided a massive bump to their 10-6-1 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games.

On Hillsdale's side, Maddie Pena spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on five hits.

At the plate, Mia DeMartini was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That triple was her first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Sophia Shelton, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and one run.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. San Mateo will take on Carlmont at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Scots have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 7.56 runs per game on average), something the Bearcats will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Hillsdale, they will challenge University Prep at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
