Baseball Game Preview: Charter Oak Chargers vs. Covina Colts

For the second straight game, Charter Oak will face off against Covina. The Chargers will look to defend their home field on Thursday against the Colts at 3:30 p.m. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Charter Oak 4, Covina 3.9) so any runs scored will be well earned.

Charter Oak is headed into Thursday's game looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight game on Tuesday. They came up short against Covina, falling 9-1. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last four times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

For Covina's part, they got a great performance from Cesar Guzman as he struck out seven batters over 5.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits. The Colts are 6-1 when Guzman allows one or fewer earned runs, but 5-11 otherwise.

At the plate, Declan Bowers was a standout: he went 2-for-3 with two doubles, two RBI, and one run. Those two doubles gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Lucas Thorpe, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

Covina was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .407. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Charter Oak's defeat dropped their record down to 8-12. As for Covina, their victory bumped their record up to 11-12.
