Baseball Recap: Newfane Comes Up Short

Newfane extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to four on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 0-3 in the process. They lost 6-0 to the Barker Bulldogs. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Panthers have suffered against the Bulldogs since April 27, 2022.

As for Barker, their win ended a six-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 3-6. That six run margin sets a new team best for them this season.

For Barker's part, the result came thanks to Jackson Prynn's shutout, as he gave up just a hit and racked up 11 Ks. Prynn also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because the Bulldogs are undefeated when he allows at most one earned run, but 0-6 otherwise.

At the plate, Barker's victory was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Isaac Monaco, who went 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI. Tristen Garcia also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Newfane will head out to face off against Webber at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Panthers are facing the Tigers at the right time seeing as the Tigers are stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Barker, they will head out on the road to challenge Perry at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Yellowjackets have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 7.17 runs per game on average), something the Bulldogs will no doubt try to take advantage of.
