Basketball Game Preview: Kennedy Cougars vs. Destiny Christian Academy Lions

Two dominant guards in Aharon Young and Jaylen Valdez are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. A feisty cat fight is on tap when the Kennedy Cougars challenge the Destiny Christian Academy Lions at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday... Kennedy is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 63 points per game this season.

Kennedy is headed into the contest having just posted their biggest victory since December 5, 2024 on Monday. They claimed a resounding 80-53 win over Aspire Langston Hughes Academy. Given the Cougars' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 319th, while the Titans are ranked 945th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Kennedy's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Young led the charge by putting up 13 points. Jordan Lawrence was another key player, earning 12 points.

Meanwhile, Destiny Christian Academy suffered their closest loss since December 12, 2024 on Saturday. They fell just short of Oakland Tech by a score of 66-63. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game on Wednesday (62), the Lions still had to take the loss.

Kennedy will need focus on slowing down Myles Wiggins, one of several Destiny Christian Academy players who made an impact when they last played. He went 6 for 7 en route to 13 points and five boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Valdez, who posted 15 points.

Kennedy's record is now 13-9. As for Destiny Christian Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 13-11.

Some high-performance offense is likely on the agenda as the two teams are some of the highest scoring teams in the league. Kennedy hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having averaged 63 points per game. However, it's not like Destiny Christian Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging 61.2 points. With both teams so easily able to put up points, the only question left is who can run the score up higher.

Kennedy lost to Destiny Christian Academy on the road by a decisive 80-61 margin in their previous meeting back in January. Can Kennedy avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
