Baseball Recap: Leon's Luck Changes for the Better on Wednesday

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against St. John Paul II, Leon was happy to have turned things around on Wednesday. They blew past the Seabreeze Sandcrabs 10-0. Considering the Lions have won eight matches by more than six runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

Connor Borges made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over six innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-3. That's the most hits he has posted since back in February.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Baker Safley, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4. He is becoming a predictor of Leon's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 7-1 (and 3-4 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Kolbe Baker, who scored a run while going 2-for-4.

Leon was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .483. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Seabreeze only posted a batting average of .200.

With the victory, Leon broke their five-game losing streak and moved their record to 10-5. As for Seabreeze, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 9-6 record this season.

Coincidentally, Leon and Seabreeze will both be playing Maclay the next time they take the field. Seabreeze will head out to face Maclay at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, while Leon will host them at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.
