Basketball Recap: Union City's Loss Ends Six-Game Winning Streak at Home

If Union City was feeling good fresh off their 49-12 takedown of Iroquois last Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Union City Bears took a 45-32 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Northwestern Wildcats on Monday. The Bears haven't had much luck with the Wildcats recently, as the team's come up short the last six times they've met.

Union City's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ava Greer, who posted six points. The team also got some help courtesy of Cheyenne Cummings, who put up eight points along with six steals and five rebounds.

It was another big night for Makayla Presser-Palmer, who dropped a double-double on 30 points and 16 boards for Northwestern. That makes it 17 consecutive games in which Presser-Palmer has scored at least a third of Northwestern's points. Another player making a difference was Courtney Eddy, who earned two points and three steals.

Union City's defeat ended a six-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 7-10. As for Northwestern, their victory was their 16th straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 17-0.

Union City wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 46-37 loss against Seneca on the 30th. Northwestern has also already played their next contest, a 53-22 win against Girard on the 30th.
