Volleyball Recap: Shelbyville Takes a Loss

Shelbyville was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They were a single set away from ending the streak, but they lost a 3-2 heartbreaker at the hands of the Connersville Spartans. If the Golden Bears were looking for revenge after losing 3-1 to the Spartans when the teams met back in August of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Shelbyville actually scored more points across those five sets (108-106), but sadly they still had to settle for second. The final score came out to 21-25, 25-18, 16-25, 25-23, 19-17.

Despite the loss, Shelbyville saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Bryleigh Heller had 14 digs and two aces. Those 14 digs set a new season-high mark for Heller.

Maggie Spurlock was the offensive standout of the game as she had nine digs.

Shelbyville's defeat dropped their record down to 1-4. As for Connersville, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-3.

Shelbyville wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 3-0 victory against Speedway on the 28th. As for Connersville, they are taking a road trip to square off against Batesville at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.
