Walker Valley has gone 9-1 against Ooltewah recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Mustangs will look to defend their home field against the Owls at 5:30 p.m. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Walker Valley 2.1, Ooltewah 3.3) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Walker Valley fought the good fight in their extra-innings matchup against Chattanooga Christian on Monday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Chargers by a score of 3-2. Mustangs fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team has lost against the Chargers since Monday.
Anzleigh Battle spent all nine innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on 11 hits and racked up seven Ks.
At the plate, Abigail Lipps made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run.
Meanwhile, Ooltewah waltzed into their contest on Thursday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They were the clear victors by an 11-1 margin over the Hstln Tigers.
Ooltewah also let their pitcher toss all five innings played and she was also dialed-in: Hailey Schmidt gave up only one earned run on three hits and racked up nine Ks.
On the hitting side, Ooltewah got a massive performance out of Jaeda Tucker, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Leighton Reed was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.
Ooltewah always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .625. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive games.
Ooltewah's victory bumped their record up to 23-9. As for Walker Valley, their loss dropped their record down to 27-8-1.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Friday. Walker Valley hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.5 home runs per game. However, it's not like Ooltewah struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.5 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Walker Valley came out on top in a nail-biter against Ooltewah in their previous meeting two weeks ago, sneaking past 3-1. Do the Mustangs have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Owls turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
