Baseball Recap: Hannibal Wins Going Away Against Montgomery County

Hannibal came out on top against Montgomery County on Monday thanks in part to the team's impressive six-run seventh inning. The Pirates blew past the Wildcats 10-1. The Pirates not only won on Monday, but they posted their biggest win since April 2nd (when they won 14-0).

Colton Dryden spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on two hits and racked up 12 Ks. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 7 strikeouts per game.

On the hitting side, Patrick Arthaud was a standout: he went a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI, one triple, and one run. He has become a key player for Hannibal: the team is undefeated when he posts at least three RBI, but 11-14 otherwise. Gavin Dudley was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Hannibal's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 14-14. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.3 runs over those games. As for Montgomery County, they moved to 14-6 with that defeat, which also ended their four-game winning streak.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Hannibal will challenge Highland at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Montgomery County, they will take on Wright City at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
