Softball Game Preview: Westfield Bombers vs. Agawam Brownies

Westfield has gone a perfect 10-0 against Agawam recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Wednesday. The Bombers will venture away from home to challenge the Brownies at 4:00 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Westfield barely beat Pittsfield the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Bombers put the hurt on the Generals with a sharp 13-2 victory on Monday. The win continues a trend for the Bombers in their matchups with the Generals: they've now won eight in a row.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Agawam). They blew past Minnechaug Regional 15-3 on Monday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Brownies.

Avery Gordon spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on four hits and racked up nine Ks. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Alexina Lentes and Payton Malanson did most of the damage at the plate: Lentes scored three runs while going 4-for-5, while Malanson went 3-for-5 with three runs, one triple, and two RBI. Lentes also brought in two RBI, marking her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Sammie Eisenbeiser, who scored a run while going 2-for-5.

Agawam always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .543. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Minnechaug Regional only posted an OBP of .207.

Agawam now has a winning record of 3-2. As for Westfield, their victory bumped their record up to 3-1.

Everything went Westfield's way against Agawam in their previous meeting back in June of 2024, as Westfield made off with a 12-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Bombers since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
