Baseball Recap: Brethren Bobcats vs. Buckley Bears
Brethren extended their losing streak to seven on Thursday, dropping them down to 2-7. They came up short against the Buckley Bears, falling 15-0. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Bobcats of the 14-0 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2025.
As for Buckley, they now have a winning record of 5-4. The high-scoring effort was just what they needed considering they were shut out in their previous matchup.
For Buckley's part, Coy Breithaupt made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out eight over four innings pitched. Breithaupt was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with three runs and one stolen base. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April of 2025.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Brody Liebler, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Those doubles were his first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Austin Matthews, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI.
We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Brethren will square off against rival Benzie Central at 4:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Buckley is set to take on their familiar foe Suttons Bay at 4:15 p.m. on Tuesday.
