Baseball Recap: Jonesboro-Hodge Triumphs

Jonesboro-Hodge took a ten-run loss the last time they faced off against Ringgold, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Tigers narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Redskins 15-13. This was a revenge game for the Tigers: when they faced off against the Redskins last Tuesday, they had to take a 17-7 defeat.

Trey Trosclair made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out 13 batters over 5.1 innings while giving up five earned runs off seven hits. Those 13 strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring three runs and stealing three bases while going 2-for-4. Jonesboro-Hodge is undefeated when Trosclair posts two or more runs, but 7-8 otherwise.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Marquis Baker, who scored two runs and stole five bases while going 4-for-4. Those four hits gave him a new career-high. Landon Boston was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing four bases while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances.

Jonesboro-Hodge moved to 10-8 with that victory, which also ended their three-game losing streak. As for Ringgold, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-12.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Jonesboro-Hodge will host Richwood at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Ringgold, they will challenge Lincoln Prep at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Panthers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 17.18 runs per game on average), something the Redskins will no doubt try to take advantage of.
