Game recap: A 23-point big quarter carries Caruthersville to victory over Dexter

Caruthersville (Mo.) scored 23 points in the third quarter to secure a big 35-7 victory over Dexter (Mo.) on Saturday.

The Tigers scored on a Rodrick Jones touchdown run, a Tyler Grissom touchdown pass to Kendall Pittman and a touchdown run by Jones in the quarter.

Caruthersville was up 12-7 at the half after taking the lead on a Grissom touchdown pass to Myron Woods in the second quarter.

CHS expanded its lead to 28 points entering the fourth quarter. The Tigers scored five times in the third, including once on a Jones touchdown run.



The Bearcats' Ryan Joyner was the standout player for his team. The senior running back ran for one touchdown. His performance brought his touchdown total to one on the year.

Caruthersville's standout player in the win was Grissom. The junior quarterback threw two touchdowns and ran for one touchdown. He has now scored six touchdowns on the season.

Dexter's lone touchdown came on a 3-yard run by Joyner in the first quarter.

The victory will ease some of the sting of CHS's close 56-55 loss to DHS last season.

With the win the Tigers extended their winning streak to three games.

In a SE Missouri - Central game next week Caruthersville (3-1) takes on New Madrid County Central, and Dexter (0-4) will go up against Kennett also in a SE Missouri - Central game.
