If Plainfield South was riding high fresh off their 65-39 takedown of Plainfield Central last Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Plainfield South Cougars lost to the Joliet Central Steelmen on the road by a 53-39 margin on Tuesday. The Cougars' defeat signaled the end of their five-game winning streak.

Despite the loss, Plainfield South still got an impressive performance from Layla Lesure, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 15 rebounds. Lesure has been hot recently, having posted 14 or more boards the last three times she's played. Zahira Edwards was another key player, putting up 11 points.

Even though they lost, Plainfield South smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 21 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 18 offensive rebounds in three consecutive games.

Plainfield South's loss was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 4-1 and their overall record down to 5-4. As for Joliet Central, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests, which provided a nice bump to their 6-5 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Plainfield South will take on Oswego East in a holiday battle at at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Plainfield South is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 52.9 points per game this season. Joliet Central and Oswego will compete for holiday cheer at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Joliet Central has three straight victories, Oswego has four straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the court.
