Basketball Recap: Buckhannon-Upshur Takes a Loss

After flying high against Fairmont Senior last Wednesday, Buckhannon-Upshur came back down to earth. The Buckhannon-Upshur Buccaneers fell 62-52 to the Parkersburg South Patriots on Saturday. The Buccaneers lost against the Patriots in their previous head to head back in February of 2024, too, but the margin this time around was much closer than the 71-37 score last time.

Despite the loss, Buckhannon-Upshur still got an impressive performance from Alyssa Abel, who dropped a double-double with 22 points and 12 rebounds. Thanks to that strong game, Abel now owns an excellent 45.1% field goal percentage. Harley Dean was another key player, putting up 11 points.

Buckhannon-Upshur has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-10 record this season. Parkersburg South has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-14 record this season.

Buckhannon-Upshur has already played their next match, a 62-41 defeat against Lewis County on the 18th. As for Parkersburg South, they are taking a road trip to face off against Morgantown at 1:45 p.m. on Saturday.
