Basketball Recap: West Plains Comes Up Short

West Plains lost against Marshfield back in February of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The West Plains Zizzers were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 52-51 to the Marshfield Bluejays. The Zizzers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Despite the defeat, West Plains saw an underclassman step up: freshman Gillian Green dropped a double-double on 17 points and 12 boards. Green is becoming a predictor of West Plains' success: when she posts at least ten boards the team is 4-2 (and 2-3 when she doesn't). Another player making a difference was Lucy Hafer, who went 5 of 9 on her way to 13 points and four steals.

West Plains' loss dropped their record down to 6-5. As for Marshfield, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven games, which provided a nice bump to their 7-3 record this season.

West Plains will face off against Central at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. West Plains is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 55.4 points per game this season. As for Marshfield, they will host Springfield Catholic at 6:15 p.m. on Monday.
