Preview: North Fork Miners vs. Aspen Skiers
North Fork is 6-1 against Aspen since December of 2014, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The North Fork Miners are on the road again and plays the Aspen Skiers at 5:00 p.m. on February 9th. Hopefully North Fork focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 17 on Friday.
While North Fork couldn't quite beat Gunnison on Friday, the two-point margin was a huge improvement compared to the 20-point defeat they were dealt last Tuesday. North Fork fell just short of Gunnison by a score of 37-35.
Despite the defeat, North Fork saw an underclassman step up: Alyssa Lovelace scored 14 points. Another player making a difference was Sidney Neff, who scored five points along with nine rebounds.
Meanwhile, Aspen's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their 12th straight defeat. The contest between them and Roaring Fork wasn't particularly close, with Aspen falling 49-30. While losing is never fun, Aspen can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 296th, while Roaring Fork is ranked 131st).
North Fork dropped their record down to 4-10 with that defeat, which was their fifth straight on the road. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 29.4 points per game. As for Aspen, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-13.
North Fork took their win against Aspen in their previous matchup back in January by a conclusive 39-15. The rematch might be a little tougher for North Fork since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
