Basketball Recap: Blackville-Hilda Takes a Loss

Blackville-Hilda was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They lost 56-33 to the Williston-Elko Blue Devils. While losing is never fun, the Fighting Hawks can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 264th, while the Blue Devils are ranked 127th).

Despite the loss, Blackville-Hilda still got an impressive performance from Breyanna Williams, who went 7 of 11 on her way to 21 points in addition to six rebounds and five steals. Williams' evening made it three games in a row in which she has scored at least 15 points.

Even though they lost, Blackville-Hilda smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in five consecutive matches.

Blackville-Hilda's loss dropped their record down to 4-10. As for Williston-Elko, the victory was the tenth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 15-4.

Looking ahead, Blackville-Hilda will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Hunter-Kinard-Tyler at 6:30 p.m. As for Williston-Elko, they will head out on the road to take on Calhoun County at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Calhoun County is on a three-game streak of home wins, Williston-Elko a four-game streak of away wins -- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the court.
