Coronado proved they can win big last Thursday (they won by three) and on Saturday they proved they can win the close ones too. They won by a set and slipped past the Lutheran Lions 3-2. The win was nothing new for the Cougars as they're now sitting on five straight.
Coronado wouldn't go down easily and took Lutheran into a fifth set where they got it done with a two-point win. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-23, 18-25, 21-25, 25-17, 15-13.
Gavin Mason paced Coronado's offense, picking up 21 kills. Mason got some help from Paolo Piuma and his 50 assists. Finally, Sebastian Steger kept Coronado's defense grounded, leading the team with seven blocks.
Coronado's victory was their eighth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 17-1. As for Lutheran, their loss dropped their record down to 8-6.
Coronado will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Lions: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
