Basketball Recap: Bridget Marotz's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Winside over Winnebago

After flying high against Randolph last Thursday, Winside came back down to earth. The Winside Wildcats took a 53-41 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Winnebago Indians on Friday.

Several Wildcats players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Bridget Marotz, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 12 boards. Marotz is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last five games she's played. Ellie Topp was another key player, going 6 for 10 on her way to 15 points in addition to five boards and three steals.

Even though they lost, Winside smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 12 offensive rebounds in four consecutive matchups.

Winside has been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six games, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-8 record this season. As for Winnebago, their victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 3-9.

Winside will welcome Omaha Nation at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Winnebago, they will head out to challenge Tri County Northeast at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
