Baseball Game Preview: Perkins Pirates vs. St. Francis de Sales Knights

The Perkins Pirates will face off against the St. Francis de Sales Knights at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Perkins is coming into the contest hot, having won their last three games.

Perkins gave up the first runs on Saturday, but they didn't let that get them down. They had just enough and edged out Clay 4-2.

The scorekeeper got an easy start on Tuesday as neither St. Francis de Sales nor Ottawa Hills made it on the board until the sixth inning. The Knights' pitchers stepped up to hand the Green Bears an 8-0 shutout. The Knights might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight matches by six runs or more this season.

Conor Lutz looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than two hits in ten consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Nick Hood, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. St. Francis de Sales is undefeated when Hood posts two or more runs, but 8-9 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Brady Mitchey, who got on base in two of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and one RBI.

Perkins pushed their record up to 17-7 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.7 runs on average over those games. As for St. Francis de Sales, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven games. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-9 record this season.
