Basketball Recap: Cheyenne Takes a Loss

After soaring to 58 points the game before, Cheyenne was a bit more limited in their matchup on Thursday. They were outmatched by the Sierra Vista Mountain Lions and fell 75-22. The contest marked the Desert Shields' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

Despite the loss, Cheyenne still got an impressive performance from Kelvin Glover, who posted nine points and three steals. Glover has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last four times he's played.

Sierra Vista's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from EJ Dacuma, who went 8 of 15 on his way to 20 points and seven rebounds. That's the most boards Dacuma has posted since back in December of 2023. The team also got some help courtesy of Jevon Yapi, who went 6 for 10 en route to 14 points along with six assists and three steals.

Cheyenne has traveled a rocky road recently having lost six of their last seven matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-18 record this season. As for Sierra Vista, the victory was the tenth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 19-3.

Cheyenne didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 75-27 defeat against Mojave on the 31st. Sierra Vista has also already played their next contest, a 74-70 win against Coronado on the 31st.
