Baseball Game Preview: Model Patriots vs. Burgin Bulldogs

The Model Patriots will venture away from home to challenge the Burgin Bulldogs at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. Model has given up an average of 10.4 runs per game this season, but Saturday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Model is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They fell 12-8 to Casey County on Friday. While the Patriots didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Rebels 5-0 in the first period.

Cal Hall was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. He tossed three innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Hall wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Kayden Wade, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with five stolen bases and two runs. Those runs marked the first that Wade has scored this season.

Meanwhile, Burgin was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They lost 21-0 to Mercer County.

This is the second loss in a row for Model and nudges their season record down to 1-9. As for Burgin, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-5.

Everything went Model's way against Burgin in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, as Model made off with a 12-2 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Patriots since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
